Princeton “No Kings Day”rally moved to Monument Park, time changed
The Princeton “No Kings Day” rally, one of hundreds of protests across the country today, has been moved to Monument Park at One Monument Drive in front of the George Washington statue. The rally will begin at 3:30 p.m. due to scheduling conflicts with other events in Princeton on Saturday.
More than 1,300 Princeton-area residents have registered to join what is expected to be the largest single day of protests since President Donald Trump returned to office.
Protesters will gather to voice their opposition to authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of democracy.
Speakers include the Rev. Bob Moore of the Coalition for Peace Action, Ezra Rosenberg of the ACLU-NJ, former New Jersey Public Defender Joe Krakora, Louise Walpin of SWEEP NJ, Ana Paola of Resistencia en Acción, New Jersey Assemblywoman Tennille McCoy, state Sen. Andrew Zwicker, and U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman.
The “No Kings” mobilization is a response to Trump’s $100 million birthday celebration, an event funded by taxpayers.
Across all 50 states, millions will gather to declare that the president is not a king. All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers said they are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.
Watson Coleman said the military parade has little to do with honoring U.S. troops or marking the 250th anniversary of the Army or the nation’s founding. She said the event on Trump’s birthday is being run under the banner of America250 without advance notice to or consent from the members of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission.
“This would be troubling enough if it ended there. But the broader picture is even more disturbing. At the same time this administration is spending millions of public dollars to put on a show of military strength for the president’s birthday, it is also deploying active-duty military forces to Los Angeles to suppress peaceful protest — a move that infringes on Americans’ First Amendment rights,” Watson Coleman said. “And while Republicans try to force legislation through Congress that cuts funding for veterans and military families, they cheer this gargantuan waste of taxpayer dollars to indulge Trump’s authoritarian fantasy. How unsurprising that Trump and Republicans would sooner burn millions of dollars on fireworks and confetti and tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue than fund the programs that many military service members rely on.”
