Winter weather advisory issued, 1–4 inches of snow expected in the Princeton area
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday for the Princeton region, where forecasters expect the season’s first measurable snowfall, with 3 to 6 inches possible overnight.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly says snow will begin late Saturday evening, with lighter bands developing between 9 p.m. and midnight. Steadier snow is expected after midnight, leading to quicker accumulation and potentially slippery roads early Sunday. Most of the area is forecast to see 1 to 4 inches by the time snow tapers off mid- to late morning. More snow is expected to fall in areas near Interstate 95.
Forecasters note that pavement temperatures may delay accumulation at the onset, but surfaces are expected to become snow-covered overnight as temperatures fall. The snow is likely to be on the lighter, fluffier side.
After the storm moves out, winds will increase and temperatures will drop into the teens Sunday night, creating the risk of refreezing on untreated surfaces.
The advisory covers central and southern New Jersey, along with parts of Delaware, Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time and use caution on stairs, sidewalks and driveways, which may become icy.
