More than 2,000 households without power, travel hazardous in Princeton region as winter storm winds down
Local roads were unsafe, and more than 2,000 households in the Princeton region were without power as of 11 a.m. Sunda,y as the first major snowstorm of the season began to wind down.
Many parts of the region received 7 or more inches of snow.
A winter storm warning is in effect until 1 p.m. for the Princeton region, portions of central, northern, and southern New Jersey, and southeast Pennsylvania, with forecasters calling for up to 2 additional inches of snow and wind gusts up to 35 mph.
Across the region, hazardous travel was reported on secondary roads, while main roads were passable only at reduced speeds.
As plow crews worked to clear local roads, officials urged residents to limit travel for the next three hours as road conditions remained difficult. Areas of blowing snow were expected to significantly reduce visibility. Residents who must travel are advised to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles in case of an emergency.
Residents are being asked to remove parked vehicles from snow-covered streets to allow for plowing, as required by municipal ordinance.
West Windsor was hit harder than any other town in Mercer County in terms of power outages. As of 10 a.m., outages were affecting the area of Village Road, New Village, Edinburg, New Edinburg, North Post, Berrien City, and surrounding developments. Road conditions were dangerous, and police in West Windsor said bridge driving conditions were terrible.
In Mercer County, the more than 2,000 PSE&G customers without power as of 11 a.m. were expected to have power restored between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. About 100 JCP&L customers in the area also had no power.
PSE&G reported the following outage information:
- Ewing Township: 527 households without power.
- Hamilton Township: 371 households without power.
- Hopewell Township: 23 households without power.
- Lawrence Township: fewer than 5 households without power.
- Princeton: fewer than 5 households without power.
- Robbinsville Township: 18 households without power.
- Trenton: 16 households without power.
- West Windsor Township: 1,177 households without power.

Princeton
- Herrontown Road is closed between Poor Farm Road and Herrontown Lane because of hazardous road conditions and the retrieval of several vehicles.
South Brunswick
- Police reported multiple car accidents and vehicles off the road on secondary roads.
- Friendship Road and Dey Road have closures because of crashes and cars off the roads.
- South Brunswick Public Library is closed Sunday.
West Windsor
- Power outages are affecting the area of Village Road, New Village, Edinburg, New Edinburg, North Post, Berrien City and surrounding developments.
