Ripples, Rulers, and a Restless Universe

Join us in the Planetarium Sep. 26 for a free talk with guest speaker James Sunsie, Princeton University. Our best model of Cosmology states that dark energy, a mysterious repulsive force acting between galaxies, makes up nearly 70% of the Universe yet we still don’t know much about it. In this talk James will unpack the most recent findings from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) that seem to suggest that the nature of dark energy is not as simple as our best model predicted. Along the way we will chart a course through the cosmos to understand how astronomers build “cosmic rulers” out of galaxies to make such miraculous claims about the composition of our Universe.
