Screening of Mundane Histories with Filmmaker Anocha Suwichakornpong
April 7 • 7:30 pm
Free and open to the public, no tickets required. In the third film of a spring series, Associate Professor of Visual Arts Nicolás Pereda presents a screening of Mundane Histories. This first full-length 2009 feature by the Thai filmmaker Anocha Suwichakornpong tells the story of a bitter young man who is paralyzed from the waist down after an accident and has been appointed a new nurse. Their relationship is cool, and his authoritarian father, who seldom shows his face, is also not a model of warmth and understanding. In long, neutral scenes separated by hard cuts, the contours emerge of a restrained psychological drama in which the young man’s cynicism slowly makes way for a renewed, cautious attempt to explore life. Q&A with the filmmaker follows the screening
