Community Blood

Princeton Township will host a blood drive tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 7 and is still looking for donors.

Walk-ins will be accepted between 3-7 p.m., or you can make an appointment to secure your preferred time.

Blood banks across the Northeast reporting shortages of blood as a result of Hurricane Irene. State and local officials have been encouraging residents to sign up to donate blood.

The blood drive is being coordinated by the township police department and will be conducted by the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, a local organization that routes donated blood back to local hospitals rather than a central blood bank. Police said this means that blood that you donate may very well end up at the University Medical Center at Princeton to help a member of the Princeton community.

If you are interested in donating blood, the ‘bloodmobile’ will be in the front lot of the police headquarters at the township municipal building. The process typically takes 20 minutes.

For those who prefer to book an appointment rather than dropping in, appointments are every half hour beginning at 3 p.m., with the last appointment at 7 p.m. To schedule an appointment, contact Sgt. Michael Cifelli via email at mrcifelli@princeton-township.nj.us and provide your name and your preferred time.
