Couple Survives Route 1 Motor Home Crash

A Canadian couple survived a horrifying Monday afternoon crash on route 1 that flipped over their motor home.

As of 9:30 this morning, Verne Beers, 68, is in serious condition and Louise Beers, 55, is listed as in fair condition, according to a hospital official.

The New Brunswick, Canada pair had to be extricated from their overturned motor home and flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center Monday after they were struck by another vehicle while driving on Route 1 north.

The Beers were driving a 1987 Ford motor home when they were hit by another vehicle just north of the Quakerbridge overpass, police said. Fady Abdelhady, 22, of King of Prussia, Pa. was driving in the left lane when he lost control of his car, police said.

The motor home, which was towing an SUV, flipped over and the couple was trapped. The pair had to be extricated from the motor home by West Windsor Emergency Services personnel. Abdelhady was not injured, police said.

The accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Route 1 north was closed for more than three hours and reopened at about 7:30 p.m. Monday night.
