A woman was assaulted on Witherspoon Street near Wiggins Street while walking home from Princeton University at about 4:15 a.m. today.

The victim told police that as she walked past Nassau Hall on campus she noticed a male in is early 20s, 5’7″ with a medium complexion and short dark hair near the building. He was wearing a white shirt with blue stripes. She crossed Nassau Street onto Witherspoon Street and noticed that he was following her.

The victim said she heard someone running behind her before the suspect grabbed her from behind and tackled her to the ground, lying on top of her. She broke free and screamed for help. The suspect fled on foot northbound on Witherspoon Street. People nearby heard her screaming and called 911.

Police and first aid units responded to the scene and evaluated the victim, who had suffered minor injuries. This case is under investigation by the Princeton Police Department.
