One Person Critically Injured After Oxygen Tank Explodes at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro

Just before 9 p.m. tonight, an oxygen tank exploded in a room at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. One employee had to be transported to another hospital via medevac from 900 Scudders Mill Road at about 11:30 p.m. It is unclear if there were any other injuries because of the explosion. A hospital visitor is being evaluated by medical personnel.

Employees and patients reported hearing a loud boom from a patient room on the third floor and some felt a shaking movement. Fire and emergency personnel were dispatched to the hospital for a one-alarm fire. As of about 9:30 p.m., the scene was under control. Emergency responders were still on the scene as of 11 p.m. Eighteen patients were moved to other floors.

The cause of the oxygen tank explosion is under investigation.

We will update this story as we learn more information.
