Planet Princeton Weekend Picks, Aug. 30-Sept. 1

Musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” – Bring your blankets, seat cushions, a flashlight and insect repellent for the performance at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theater, 355 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville. 7:30 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday. Snack bar.  Admission $15.

Plowing Match at the Howell Living History Farm – Annual Plowing Match. Watch and participate in the event, which features old-fashioned plowing and log pulling competitions, a craft and pony rides for children, and lots of food, music and old-fashioned fun.  A dozen teams of draft animals from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York are entered in the match, which tests the performance of farmers, their horses and oxen, and their plows as they turn furrows. Judging will take place from 10 a.m. until noon. Winners of the Fine Plowing Class will receive trophies, ribbons and cash prizes. 70 Wooden’s Lane, Lambertville. 
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free.

World’s Fair Family Day at the New Jersey State Museum – Explore the exhibit “‘New Jersey On Display: World’s Fairs and the Garden State.” Ice cream, hands-on crafts workshops and activities exploring the importance of the World’s Fair inventions. 205 West State Street, Trenton. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission $5.

Indo-American Fair at Mercer County Park – Annual entertainment and cultural festival at Mercer County Park in West Windsor features handicrafts, ethnic dresses, fashion, henna, jewelry, and Indian foods. 
11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entry fee is $2.50.

Sangria Saturdays and Sundays at Terhune Orchards – Visit the winery and tasting room at Terhune Orchards and sample some delicious sangria. Also sold by the glass. Pick your own gala apples while you are there. Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Ray Rodriguez y Swing Sabroso Performs on Palmer Square – Concert on the green on Palmer Square. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free.

Jersey Jumpers Swing Dancing Lesson and Dance – Join the Central Jersey Dance Society at the Unitarian Church of Princeton for some swing, jitterbug, and lindy hop. Lesson followed by a dance. No partners needed and beginners welcome. 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton. Admission $12. 50.

Sunday, August 31

Princeton Walking Tour – Two-hour walking tour around downtown Princeton and Princeton University campus with the Historical Society of Princeton, Bainbridge House, 158 Nassau Street, Princeton $7.

Performance of Snow White – Snow White performed at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theater, 355 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville. 4 p.m. Admission $5 to $7.

Thomas Perkins Performs at the Alchemist & Barrister – Live music at one of Princeton’s most popular bars. 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. 28 Witherspoon Street, Princeton. No cover.

Monday, September 1

CoolVines Anniversary Celebration – Princeton’s resident beer pro Chris P kicks off CoolVines Princeton’s 6th Anniversary Week with a debut of 2014’s latest fall seasonal releases. Live music from Duo Bossa Nova and 10% off any “core collection” wine. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 21 Spring Street, Princeton.

Musket Firing Demonstration at Washington Crossing State Park – Join a Park Historian for an interpretive talk about some
of the weapons used during the American Revolution and their use during the Battle of Trenton. Included will be a musket firing demonstration. 2 p.m. Visitor Center Museum, 355 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville. $1 program fee and park vehicle entrance fee. Admission $1.
