Weather Update, Closings and Event Postponements for Monday, Jan. 26

Leave extra time for your morning commute. Work crews and police are reporting that roads are already slippery Monday morning.

Snow will begin again later this morning and become heavy at times late Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. About 14 to 18 inches of snow is now expected for the Central New Jersey area.

Travel is not recommended between 9 p.m. tonight and 9 a.m. Tuesday along the Interstate 95 corridor from Philadelphia northeastward to New York City and eastward to the shore. Powdery wind-blown snow will increase dramatically, making travel much more difficult. Snowfall rates from near Cherry Hill and Philadelphia northward will increase to near one inch per hour for several hours. Closer to New York, two to four inches of snow per hour are expected tonight, especially in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

All NJ Transit operations will make their final departures from origin points at 8 p.m. and their last stops by 10 p.m. NJ Transit operations will be shut down Tuesday. Bus and light-rail will resume Wednesday, and rail will resume Thursday. Systemwide cross-honoring of NJ Transit rail, light rail, bus passes and tickets in effect from Mon, Jan. 26 through and including Wed, Jan. 28.

Recycling is being picked up in Princeton Monday as scheduled.


The Princeton Public Library is closing at 4 p.m.

Princeton University will close at 3:30 p.m. Monday for non-essential personnel. Students are on break this week. The Frist Campus Center will remain open until 10 p.m. Whitman College dining hall will be open for dinner 5-8 p.m. TigerTransit buses will end regular service at 5 p.m., when the Campus Circulator will begin service and run on a limited schedule until 8 p.m. Campus libraries will remain open except Mudd Manuscript Library. Athletic and recreation facilities will be closed.

All Corner House programs are closed after 5 p.m. Monday, including individual and group sessions.

The Chapin School is closed.

The Cambridge School is closed on Monday.

Princeton Center for Yoga and Health has cancelled evening classes for Monday, but all morning and afternoon classes are on.

Early Dismissals

Princeton Public Schools – The high school will dismiss at 12:35. The middle school and elementary schools will dismiss at 1. Traffic conditions in the afternoon may cause some buses to be delayed.

Princeton Charter School – Dismissal at noon.

Cranbury Public  Schools – Dismissal at 1 p.m.

West Windsor-Plainsboro Schools – Early dismissal.

Princeton Montessori School – Early closing at 1 p.m. on Monday.

Waldorf School of Princeton – Early dismissal for early childhood at noon, grade school at 12:50 p.m..

Montgomery Public Schools – Early dismissal.

Pennington Montessori – 12:15 dismissal.

South Brunswick Schools – will close two hours early Monday.

Community Events Rescheduled or Cancelled

The Princeton Council meeting scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

Princeton Community Works – Rescheduled from Monday, Jan. 26, to Friday, Jan. 30, 5 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., at the Frist Campus Center at Princeton University.
