Lawrenceville School Students Raise More Than $12,000 to Fight Pediatric Cancer
February in New Jersey – what better time to shave your head?
For some students at the Lawrenceville School, no time is the wrong time when it is for a good cause. More than two dozen students, faculty members, and children of faculty members had their heads shaved today to raise money for childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
They group has raised more than $12,000, and donations are still coming in.
Lawrence resident Hutch Collins, a student at the Lawrenceville School, came up with the idea to hold the fundraiser. He’s been a participant in the Lawrence Township St. Baldrick’s fundraiser for the past six years and thought it would be a great way to unite the town and the school for a good cause.
“We are a community inside of a community and I thought we should be a part of this,” he said.
The event was organized by student Alice Yang , along with the school’s community service office. Four stylists from Melz Salon & Spa volunteered their time to shave heads, giving the more than two dozen participants a dramatic new look in less than 30 minutes.
