This Tuesday, Oct. 6th, weather permitting, a contractor is scheduled to mill and install base pavement at the intersection of Ewing Street and Mount Lucas Road. On Wednesday, Oct. 7th, weather permitting, the contractor plans to install the final surface pavement at the intersection of Ewing Street and Mount Lucas Road. Mount Lucas Road will be closed from Jefferson Road to Poor Farm Road and Ewing Street will be closed between Route 206 and the North Harrison Street and Bunn Drive intersection from 9 a.m. to about noon.
Once the work is completed, the contractor will continue to install final surface pavement on Mount Lucas Road from Ewing Street working toward Cherry Hill Road. Mount Lucas Road will be closed to through traffic from Ewing Street to Cherry Hill Road from 9 a.m. to about 6 p.m. Provisions will be made for trash, emergency services vehicles and school buses. Residents living between Ewing Street and Laurel Road who need to use their vehicles on Wednesday should remove their vehicles from their driveways by 9 am and park in a legal parking space on a roadway outside of the paving limits. Refrain from any pedestrian foot traffic across the new pavement during work hours. The pavement surface is hot and susceptible to marring.
After the final paving of the roadway is completed, the roadway may not be driven upon for a 2-hour period up until approximately 6 pm. This restriction will prevent permanent damage to the pavement during its “curing period”. Residents will then be allowed to return to their driveways once the road is opened. In the event of inclement weather, the work will proceed on the following day.
Looking ahead, on Wednesday, October 7th, weather permitting, the contractor plans to mill the existing pavement on Cherry Hill Road between Route 206 and Mount Lucas Road; Terhune Road from Route 206 to Mount Lucas Road; and Mount Lucas Road between Cherry Hill Road and Valley Road. In order to provide for this work, Cherry Hill Road will be closed between Route 206 and Mount Lucas Road; Terhune Road will be closed from Route 206 to Jefferson Road; and Mount Lucas Road will be closed between Cherry Hill Road and Valley Road during working hours of 9 am to approximately 4 pm. The businesses closest to Cherry Hill Road will remain accessible from Jefferson Road during the milling operation and after the milling is complete, from Cherry Hill Road.
Additional notice will be provided regarding the final paving of these sections of roads which is planned to occur on Thursday, October 8th and Friday, October 9th, weather permitting.
