Battlefield Group Files Appeal in Institute for Advanced Study Housing Case

battlefield Institute PrincetonThe Princeton Battlefield Society has filed an appeal to stop the Institute for Advanced Study from building housing on a site that was part of the historic Battle of Princeton during the Revolutionary War.

Approved by the Princeton Planning Board last year, the Institute’s plan calls for eight townhouses and seven single-family homes to be built on a 7-acre piece of Institute land.

The land is adjacent to a stream corridor buffer. The Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission initially rejected the Institute’s plan, then reversed its decision a month later.

The lawsuit filed in the Appellate Division challenges the Princeton Planning Board’s approval of the project. A second lawsuit in the Appellate Division challenges the D&R Canal Commission’s reversal of its decision to vote down the project.
