Cherry Valley Road Bridge Reopened
The Mercer County Department of Transportation and Infrastructure
has completed the replacement of a culvert on Cherry Valley Road over Bedens Brook in Princeton and Montgomery Township.
The bridge is located about a quarter-mile east of the Province Line Road intersection.
Construction on the project began on Nov. 4, 2015. The road was closed to vehicles and pedestrians during the project.
The old bridge carrying Cherry Valley Road over Bedens Brook was a single cell concrete box on the stream bed. The culvert was in poor condition due to severe concrete cracks, and rusted reinforcing steel was exposed.
The replacement culvert carries two traffic lanes, and includes 5-foot shoulders with a 7-foot sidewalk on the south side and 4-foot sidewalk on the north, as well as 3.5-foot-high concrete parapets on both sides. There is a concrete wearing surface on top of the culvert and concrete slabs on both approaches to the culvert.
Konkus Corp. of Chester was the successful low bidder for the project at $785,897.35. The
contract was awarded on Sept. 10, 2015, and was funded through the New Jersey
Department of Transportation Division of Local Aid funds.
