2016 Candidate Filing Deadlines and Election Schedule in NJ
The deadline to file a petition to run as a candidate in a June primary race is April 4.
The primary will be held Tuesday, June 7. Candidates who want to run as independents must file petitions by that date.
May 8 is the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail for the primary races. It is also the last day to register to vote.
Absentee ballots must be mailed or delivered to a county clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on election day.
The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 8.
