Peddie School on Lockdown Thursday Afternoon as Police Searched for Criminal Suspect

The Peddie School was on lockdown this afternoon as police searched for a criminal suspect on campus and in the surrounding area.

Hightstown police officers were looking for a couple who fled from a car crash on foot. One of the two was thought to be armed, police said.

The school went into lockdown mode at about 2:15 p.m. after administrators were notified that a criminal suspect was in the area.

The suspect was not seen on campus, and the lockdown was put in place as a precaution, school officials said. The school remained in lockdown mode until police searched the area with K-9s and said the area was clear. No one was allowed to drive onto the campus, and several streets surrounding the school were closed as police conducted the search.
