Driver dies after veering off road and crashing in area of truck debris on Route 1

A tractor-trailer traveling north on Route 1 left debris on the northbound lanes and then a man in Dodge van who was driving in the area of the debris veered off the road and struck several trees, West Windsor Police said.

The incident took place about a half a mile north of Quakerbridge Road just after 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Gerard Haburay of New York City, who was driving the 1992 Dodge van and was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to an area hospital, where he died.

The death is the second driving related fatality in the Princeton area in 48 hours.

West Windsor Police Officer Frank Sabatino and detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team are investigating the incident.  If there are any witnesses to the incident, please contact the Traffic Sgt. Danny Mohr Ptl. Frank Sabatino at (609) 799-1222.
