Route 1 exit ramp to Route 206 and Business 1 to be closed for bridge project

The Route 1 exit ramp (northbound) to Route 1 Business/Route 206 will be closed overnight starting Thursday night for the bridge replacement project in Trenton, state officials said.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug, 24 until 6 a.m. Friday, August 25, NJDOT contractor South State Inc., is scheduled to close the Route 1 northbound exit ramp to Route 1 Business/Route 206 for bridge deck replacement work.

Additional closures are scheduled next week from 9 pm. until 6 a.m. from Monday, Aug. 28 through Thursday, Aug. 31.

Drivers following the detour will be directed to stay on Route 1 northbound to the Whitehead Road exit, then make a left at the end of the exit ramp onto Whitehead Road/CR 616, then make a left onto Brunswick Avenue/Route 1 Business southbound and continue to the Route 206/Brunswick Avenue/Strawberry Street Circle.

The $7.6 million federally funded bridge project will replace two structurally deficient bridge decks on Route 1 Business in Trenton — one ramp is on Route 1 Business over New York Avenue, and the other is Route 1 Business over Route 1 southbound/D&R Canal. The project will replace the bridge decks with new pour-in-place concrete bridge deck panels, parapets, guide rails and lighting. The project is being completed in stages, with the majority of work being done overnight or on weekends. The project began in the fall of 2016 is expected to be completed by the summer of 2018.
