Local update: 30 confirmed COVID-19 cases total in Princeton (plus other area stats)

Three residents of Mercer County have died as a result of complications from COVID-19, according to state officials.

Hamilton Township officials confirmed the death of one resident on Wednesday afternoon. The Trentonian identified the resident as Grant James Dufficy, 63. Dufficy was an engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency in Philadelphia. He died Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton.

A 63-year-old Trenton resident who lived at Atrium Post Acute Care in Plainsboro died on Sunday, according to the Trentonian.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy reported Wednesday that ninety-one more residents of the state have died, bringing the statewide death toll to 355.

“We’re in the fight of our lives,” Murphy said. “We have lost at least 355 people of valor, up and down our state, young and old, people of all backgrounds. We have to stay at home before this hits home.”

Thirty Princeton residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak began about a month ago. The local health department received positive test results from labs for two residents on Wednesday.

Two residents have been hospitalized due to complications from COVID-19, according to the latest health department report. Three residents who have tested positive are healthcare workers. Eighteen positive cases are still active. Self-isolation is over in 12 cases. The latest report from the local health department lists seven residents as actively self-quarantining.

Seventeen residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 are male, and 11 are female, according to the health department report. The statistics do not appear to count the gender of one of the 30 positive cases.

One person is under the age of 11. One is between the ages of 11 and 18. Twenty-three residents are between the ages of 18 and 65. Five are 66 or older.

Three Princeton University on-campus students total have tested positive for COVID-19 as of March 31. Thirty-three students off campus have tested positive. Fourteen Princeton University employees total have tested positive.

Hamilton Township has reported that 56 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus. Trenton reported 61 total confirmed cases as of Wednesday, April 1.

West Windsor reported a total of 35 cases as of April 1.

Lawrence Township reported a total of 15 COVID-19 cases as of April 1.

Pennington officials have confirmed one case in the borough.

The Trenton Police director and the 73-year-old Ewing Mayor Bert Steinmann have both tested positive for COVID-19.

State Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli reported on Wednesday that three residents of the Trenton Psychiatric Hospital and three staff members have tested positive. The state is ramping up efforts to stop the spread of the virus there, she said.
