Video: Rutgers-based co. develops saliva test to detect the coronavirus

Rutgers-based company helps increase testing capacity

RUCDR Infinite Biologics, a unit of Rutgers’ Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey, is launching a new genetic testing service to detect the coronavirus. It’s faster and safer than the traditional nasal swabbing method because it uses saliva samples. A medical provider doesn’t need to be present for the sample to be provided. Abbott Labs recently received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to use the test.
