Ewing resident Margaret Germaine Ryan dies at 84

Margaret Germaine (Gerry) Ryan of Ewing, passed away peacefully at home on April 10 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 84.

Born at home on Redfern Avenue in Hamilton to Patrick and Margaret Corboy Walsh, she was the oldest of three children, Gerry was the salutatorian of Hamilton High School’s Class of 1953. After raising her five children, she reignited her passion for education and attended Mercer County Community College to become a registered nurse. She retired from her nursing career at Mercer Medical Center in 2001.

She was dedicated to her family, was cherished by them in turn, and will be profoundly missed.

Gerry is predeceased by her brothers, Patrick and John Walsh. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 66 years, Thomas Francis Ryan Jr., and her five children; Margaret Ryan Newman, Thomas Francis Ryan III, Michael Patrick Ryan and his wife Karen, Kathleen Ryan Barringer and her husband Don, and Sheila Ryan Schwab. She was a devoted grandmother to; Thomas Newman and his wife Wendy, Sean Newman, Rachel (Ryan) Baxter, Maeve, Michael, Thomas and Devin Ryan, Colleen (Barringer) Mulleavey and her husband Brian, Donald Barringer and Heather (Schwab) Wells. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; Ryan, Erin, Dylan, Tyler, Andrew and Kaylee.

Because of the current restrictions on public gatherings due to COVID-19, Gerry’s funeral service and interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton will be private. Be assured that a celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at a later date.
