Second suspect arrested in the South Brunswick shooting that took place near Route 1
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place earlier this month near the Royal Oaks Apartments clubhouse on Henderson Road just off Route 1 in South Brunswick.
Jayvin Almestica, 20, of Lawrenceville, Ga., was arrested in Dover, Del. last week and extradited to New Jersey yesterday. He is charged with first degree attempted murder in connection to the shooting. Almestica is being held at the Middlesex County Corrections Center pending a detention hearing.
South Brunswick Police responded to a report of a shooting just before 4 p.m. on July 11 at the apartment complex. An 18-year-old Monmouth Junction man was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and treated for gunshot wounds. On July 14, South Brunswick resident Jahmil Alvarez, 19, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons charges
“Gun violence is rare in our community, and I am thankful we have quickly tracked down those responsible,” said South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka of the arrests of the two suspects.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting should call South Brunswick Detective Timothy Hoover at (732) 329-4000 ext. 7443, or South Brunswick Detective Sean Sullivan of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4060.
