Truck strikes, kills Pennington senior who was crossing Route 31
An 84-year-old Pennington died on Wednesday morning after being struck by a truck while crossing Route 31 near the Pennington Market, police said.
The woman, whose name has not been released by police yet, was crossing Route 31 at the crosswalk at West Delaware Avenue just after 10 a.m. when she was hit by a white single axle Penske Box truck that was being driven by a 32-year-old man from Phillipsburg. The truck was traveling north on Route 31. The woman was attempting to cross the road in the crosswalk located at the south side of the intersection on Route 31. She entered Route 31 and the front of the truck struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Route 31 at West Delaware Avenue was closed from about 10:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by Pennington Police Officer Novin Thomas and Officer Johnathan Pauciullo, and Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Det. Sal Vaccaro. Anyone who witnessed the crash should call 609-737-2020
