Federal Court in Trenton closed to the public due spike in COVID cases
The clerk’s office for the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey will be closed indefinitely due to the recent spike in COVID cases in the state.
All in-person judicial proceedings in both civil and criminal cases also are suspended through Jan. 31. Judicial proceedings will be conducted via video and teleconference whenever possible. If a defendant does not consent to proceed via video or teleconference for an initial appearance, arraignment, plea, or sentencing, the proceeding will be held in person after Jan. 31.
Court filings can be filed electronically or placed in a drop box at the federal courthouse in Trenton on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you are making a payment using a check or money order, it should be placed in a sealed envelope, and labeled with the name, docket number if available, and return address.
The court clerk’s office can be reached by phone for assistance weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
