Trash pickup delays continue across Princeton region as haulers struggle with staffing issues

Residents in Princeton, Lawrence, Ewing, South Brunswick, and other area communities continue to experience delays when it comes to trash collection.

Trash companies are struggling to keep up with collection schedules due to staff shortages related to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Solterra, the company that collects trash for several municipalities in Mercer County, has been dealing with staffing shortages for a few weeks. Republic Services, the trash hauler for South Brunswick, has also struggled with staffing issues over the past week.

Officials are advising residents to expect delays and leave their garbage cans out at the curb if they have not been emptied.

Staff shortages due to COVID-19 have forced many local businesses to reduce hours or close temporarily. Residents in some area towns have also reported issues with mail not being delivered at all for a few days in a row this week.
