Rosedale Road closed through the summer for construction of roundabout
Rosedale Road is closed to through traffic while workers construct a roundabout at General Johnson Drive and Greenway Meadows.
The Mercer County construction project is anticipated to last through the summer. During the project, Rosedale Road will be open to local traffic only.
For the first phase of the roadwork, Johnson Park School and the Greenway Meadows’ sports fields will only be accessible from the west via Province Line Road. During the second phase of the project, which is expected to begin in late July, Johnson Park School and the Greenway Meadows’ sports fields will only be accessible from the east via Elm Road.
The Rosedale Road roundabout project is one phase of the improvements being made along the road to create a safer road for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers. The intersection has been considered unsafe for many years, with both the local bicycle and pedestrian committee and the PTO at the elementary school raising concerns about the crosswalk there and the safety of pedestrians and school children. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour on Rosedale Road and then the speed limit changes to 25 miles per hour near the school. The intersection was flagged in a Safe Routes to School report in 2016. In August of 2021, Princeton resident Pinghua Xu was killed after being struck by a driver while crossing at the pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection. The 82-year-old walked in the area every day and was a familiar face to many Princeton residents. He had activated the pedestrian crossing signal before he attempted to cross the road, and was struck by a Lexus SUV.
