Princeton area police blotter: Identity theft, shoplifting, jewelry burglaries

Princeton Police

A Heather Lane resident reported to the police on Aug. 13 that someone obtained his personal information and used it to open two cell phone accounts and buy two Apple iPhones without his authorization. The purchases totaled $2,100.98. The detective bureau is investigating the identity theft and forgery case.

A man entered a store on North Harrison Street on Aug. 10 and stole a necklace valued at $230, police said. The detective bureau is investigating the theft.

Hopewell Township Police

A resident of Scotch Road reported to police that sometime on Aug. 4, someone entered the resident’s vehicle and stole a laptop valued at $4,000. The investigation is ongoing.

On Aug. 5, a resident of Woodmere Way reported that sometime between Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, someone entered the resident’s house and removed cash and jewelry worth about $200. The investigation is ongoing.

A 38-year-old Hopewell Borough resident was charged with contempt of court, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and hindering apprehension on the afternoon of July 28 after a police officer stopped her while she was driving a gold Infiniti on County Route 579. She allegedly provided a false name to the police officer and was arrested for hindering apprehension because there was an active warrant for her arrest out of Buck’s County, Pa. An investigation revealed that she was in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. She was transported to police headquarters for processing and later transferred to the Mercer County Correctional Facility.

A 48-year-old Pennington resident was charged with burglary and trespassing on the afternoon of Aug. 5 after a police officer was dispatched to a Washington Crossing Pennington Road address for a trespassing complaint. He was placed under arrest on the scene and transported to police headquarters for processing. The case will be heard in Mercer County Superior Court.

Just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 1, a 49-year-old Trenton resident was charged with shoplifting after a police investigation. On July 28, a police officer was dispatched to ShopRite on Pennington Road for a shoplifting complaint. A couple allegedly entered the store and stole about $600 of merchandise. Further investigation led to the identification of the male suspect, who was charged with shoplifting.

On the morning of July 28, a police officer stopped the driver of a white Honda sedan on Washington Crossing Pennington Road for a motor vehicle violation. The driver was found to be operating the vehicle with a fictitious temporary registration. The 59-year-old Bronx, New York man was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with possessing a fraudulent government document.

A 21-year-old Trenton resident was charged with contempt of court on July 30 after a police officer stopped him for a motor vehicle violation while he was driving a black Hyundai on Route 31. The police officer discovered that the man had an active warrant for his arrest out of East Windsor Township. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was released from custody on his own recognizance and the case will be heard in municipal court.

On the morning of Aug. 7, a 23-year-old Philadelphia resident who was driving a white Honda sedan was pulled over on County Route 579 for a motor vehicle violation. Police determined that he was operating the vehicle with a fictitious temporary registration. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was subsequently charged with possessing a fraudulent government document. The case will be heard in Mercer County Superior Court.

A 41-year-old Pennington resident was pulled over by a police officer for a motor vehicle violation just before noon on Aug. 5 on Washington Crossing Pennington Road in the area of Scotch Road. The officer determined that the man was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters for processing, charged with driving while under the influence, and later released.
