Martin Luther King Day Celebration at the Arts Council of Princeton

Join the Arts Council of Princeton to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a community breakfast and talk. The morning will begin with remarks from speaker Tina Campt, a noted Black feminist theorist of visual culture and contemporary art at Princeton University. Includes a bagel and coffee breakfast. Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood By Romus Broadway Naming Party

An important portion of the rich history of Princeton’s Historic Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood lies in the memories and family stories of many of its residents. Recognizing the importance of preserving and documenting these recollections, the Arts Council of Princeton requests your help naming Witherspoon-Jackson residents as captured in the photographic collages of late W-J resident Romus Broadway. Free and open to all. 

Day of Service at the Mapleton Preserve

Noon at the Mapleton Preserve

Join the winter work session in the Mapleton Preserve. Volunteers will work on removing autumn olive and other invasive plants from around the ginkgo trees lining the signature nursery row. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and work gloves. Tools and work gloves will be available, but participants are invited to bring their favorite tools to the event – pruners, saws, rakes, and shovels. Your loppers and wheelbarrows would be especially appreciated. More information

Join the land steward team at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve as they remove invasive species and install caging to protect young trees. Meet at 57 Mountain Avenue in Princeton. More information

Trenton Music Makers Community Concert

6 p.m. at Trinity Church in Princeton

Trenton Music Makers will give a community concert at Trinity Church in honor of Martin Luther King Day and the National Day of Service. Bring non-perishable foods, or a monetary donation for the nonprofit that helps food-insecure residents in the county, Arm in Arm. More information

Princeton Interfaith Service to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

7 p.m. at Nassau Presbyterian Church

The Princeton Clergy Association and the Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action are co-sponsoring the annual multifaith service in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. In-person attendees are urged to wear masks and to arrive early. For those wanting to attend online, the service will also be live-streamed. The preacher will be the Rev. Vernon Byrd Jr. Diverse faith leaders will co-lead the liturgy, and a unity choir with participants from a range of faith groups will also perform. During the service, a freewill offering will be received, which will be split equally between Not in Our Town-Princeton and the Princeton-based Peace Action Education Fund of the Coalition for Peace Action. The service is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by Coalition for Peace Action. More information
