East Windsor educator selected for 2023 C-SPAN teacher fellowship

WASHINGTON (June 28, 2023) — Meghan Stratton, a teacher at Melvin H. Kreps Middle School in East Windsor, New Jersey, has been selected as one of six educators in C-SPAN’s 2023 Teacher Fellowship program. Stratton will collaborate with C-SPAN’s Education Relations team this summer to create content for C-SPAN Classroom, the Network’s free online resource for teachers, students, and the public.
Stratton currently teaches 6th Grade Social Studies and is a lead teacher at Melvin H. Kreps Middle School. She was named the 2019 New Jersey History Teacher of the Year from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the MHK Governor’s Educator of the Year in 2021. Stratton is a Teacher Ambassador at the New York Historical Society and a member of the Teacher Advisor Council at the National Constitution Center. Additionally, she is a theater advisor in her district and a leadership consultant in both higher education and corporate settings. Stratton received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education from Rutgers University and completed her supervisor certificate endorsement program at Rutgers Graduate School of Education in 2021.
Through the fellowship, Stratton will partner with C-SPAN to expand the collection of digital resources. C-SPAN Classroom provides middle and high school teachers with video-based content, including lesson plans, bell ringers, current events videos, inquiry-based deliberations and more.
Fellows were selected by a panel of C-SPAN representatives and evaluated based on their innovative use of C-SPAN programming in their curriculum, commitment to professional development, and creative use of technology and social platforms. The educators will receive $1,000 for participating in the program.
“C-SPAN’s educator community represents some of the finest teachers in the country,” said Craig McAndrew, director of C-SPAN Education Relations. “We’re excited to work closely with Meghan this summer, during our 30th annual teacher fellowship, to expand and improve our digital educational offerings for teachers and students across the country.”
The Fellowship program is sponsored by C-SPAN’s Education Foundation, a charitable organization created by C-SPAN. C-SPAN Classroom is an entity of C-SPAN, which is funded by America’s cable television companies. In East Windsor, C-SPAN is available locally on Optimum.
“Optimum is proud to once again support C-SPAN’s Teacher Fellowship program, which showcases the teachers who are bringing learning to life in meaningful and creative ways,” said Jen Ostrager, senior vice president of community affairs at Optimum. “We congratulate all the teachers who have been selected as Fellows this year, including two educators in Optimum’s New Jersey service area, and we look forward to seeing the content created from this program to help educate and inspire the next generation of leaders.”
The Fellowship will take place virtually in July. The program will coincide with C-SPAN’s Summer Educators’ Conferences for middle and high school teachers, which will be held virtually at the end of the month. Stratton and the other Teacher Fellows will participate in the conferences and discuss how they use C-SPAN Classroom resources in their teaching.
Too bad all the good ones are resigning from this district due to no contract. Wouldn’t be surprised if she left, too.
