Tornado watch extended until 10 p.m., flood watch in effect until Saturday for Princeton region

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has extended the tornado watch for Mercer, Burlington Hunterdon, Middlesex, and Somerset counties until 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.

A tornado watch means tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. You should review and discuss emergency plans in preparation for a possible tornado, take inventory of your supplies, and have a designated safe room. Be ready to act quickly if a tornado warning is issued or you suspect that a tornado is approaching.

The National Weather Service has also issued a flood watch for the region that is in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding.

A wind advisory also is in effect until 8 p.m. Wind gusts of 10 to 20 miles per hour are likely, with occasional gusts of 45 to 50 miles per hour possible. Frequent wind gusts of 35 to 45 mile-per-hour winds are possible, which when combined with saturated ground could mean trees will be brought down. Power outages are possible.
