Shaun Sweeney, veteran and chief nursing executive, dies at 58

Shaun Sweeney RN, MSN, PMH-BC passed away peacefully on August 10, surrounded by his family. He was 58.
Born to Frank D. and Catherine J. Sweeney, he was raised in South Brunswick. After graduation from South Brunswick High School, Shaun enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Security Police Force. After his military service, Shaun began a career at Carrier Clinic spanning over 35 years and rising to the position of Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic in Montgomery.
Shaun was a huge New York sports fan, a South Brunswick flag football and rec. baseball coach for many years, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed attending music festivals, camping, and the outdoors, driving his camper to beaches along the East Coast, and dining on steak dinners with family and friends. He was a member of The American Legion, VFW Post 9111, and Loyal Order of Moose.
Shaun was predeceased by his father, Frank D. Sweeney. Shaun is survived by his wife of 29 years, Catherine Keller Sweeney; his four children, Mary C. Sweeney and her husband Willem Beeson of Exton, Pa; Sloan E. Sweeney at home; Sean E. Sweeney of South Brunswick; and Kevin F. Sweeney at home; his mother, Catherine Jussel Sweeney; his two brothers Stephen F. Sweeney; Scott E. Sweeney; and five sisters, Sloan S. and Raymond Scully; Sheila S. Goeke and Robert Nolan; Suzanne M. Danielle; Shevaun M. and Merrill Merritt; Sharon A. and Frank Danzi; his father-in-law, Everett C. Keller; sister-in-law Mary Anne Keller; his brother-in-laws, Everett C. and Janet Keller; James and Marigoula Keller; William Keller; Howard and Kristin Keller; and he is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his dear friends and extended family members, Tim White, Rob Williams, Mark Kuminski, Kyle Trautwein, Greg Bonagura, Matt White, Jeff Powell, and many others he thought of as family. This extends to the many young people he coached, mentored, and welcomed into his home throughout the years, including Gage Katzenell-Hall, PJ Schneider, and so many more.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, 10 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction. Cremation will follow at a later date at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Friends may call on Friday, August 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
