Two Princeton residents win 2024 HiTOPS half marathon

Ruaridh Mon-Williams won the men’s division of the 2024 HiTOPS Princeton Half Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 10, with a time of 1:09:35, while Ingrid Wells won the women’s division with a time of 1:23:13, three minutes faster than her 2017 win. Both top finishers are residents of Princeton.

Now in its 12th year, the half marathon drew 1,650 runners on a chilly Sunday. The 13.1-mile, USATF-certified Grand Prix course is known for its scenic views and challenging hills. Highlights included the Princeton Battlefield, the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University, the Princeton Boathouse, and Westminster Choir College.

The event drew 489 runners from Princeton, along with participants from 40 states and seven countries, including Canada, Germany, Denmark, Spain, the U.K., Ireland and Portugal.

Proceeds from the race benefit HiTOPS sex education programs and services for youth. The event has raised over $1.1 million to date.

Worth a mention

The four youngest runners were 12 years old, including Kanata Ari of Princeton. His chip time was 1:37:43.

The oldest runner was Hugo Del Bove, 73, of Wyckoff, New Jersey. He finished the race with a chip time of 1:56:29.

Owen Eldridge, 17, of Lawrenceville came in fourth place overall with a time of 1:16:35.

Luisa Buss, 17, of Princeton came in fourth place in the women’s division with a chip time of 1:26:41.

Thirteen people have completed the race every year it has been held: Alexei Wedmid, Alison Lockman, Andrew Gow, Eric Hamblet, Gareth Funka-Lea, Gillian Cannon, Jonathan Daly, Larry Kanter, Leticia Fraga, Mark Boulding, Matias Zaldarriaga, Ned Weiss and Rick Herwig.
