Photos: Hundreds rally against Elon Musk and DOGE outside Lawrence Tesla dealership
More than 400 people lined the road in front of the Tesla dealership at Mercer Mall in Lawrence on Saturday afternoon to protest Elon Musk’s government spending cuts. They carried signs reading “Send Musk to Mars,” “Tesla funds fascists,” and “Nobody voted for Elon.”
The protest was part of a national “Takedown Tesla” event organized by Indivisible, a volunteer-led activist group. Critics of President Donald Trump and Musk hope to discourage and stigmatize purchases of Tesla vehicles. For weeks, groups have organized anti-Tesla protests in cities across the country, aiming to galvanize opposition to Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
At Saturday’s protest, participants called on Tesla owners to sell their vehicles and divest from Tesla stock.
The peaceful demonstration was the second such protest at the Tesla dealership in Lawrence. The first was held two weeks earlier, and turnout for the second event was more than double that of the first.

Thanks for this! These pictures are worth a million words
Thank you for everything
It is baffling that people have so vociferously taken up the cause of bureaucratic overemployment and wasteful government spending. But, hey, if this crowd was logical, these purported champions of democracy would consider that while “nobody voted for Elon,” nobody voted for the nomination of their party’s failed presidential candidate either.
Instead of selling their Teslas, some owners are applying a bumper sticker stating that, “I bought this car before I knew Musk was a jerk.” (The last word is sometimes more severe.)
One demonstration is not enough. This should happen over and over.
