Princeton pederstrian stuck by teen driver near library dies
A Princeton resident who was hit last week while walking on Wiggins Street near Sylvia Beach Way died Friday as a result of his injuries, police confirmed Monday.
Hin Chin, 74, was walking east on the sidewalk on Wiggins Street when a 17-year-old driver in a 2012 gray Honda Odyssey traveling westbound on Wiggins Street made a left turn onto Sylvia Beach Way and struck the pedestrian, causing him to suffer a severe head injury.
Chin was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, which is a level two trauma center. Police said he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
The Princeton Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau, in coordination with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, continues to investigate the crash. Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Patrol Officer Jonathan Myzie at (609) 921-2100, ext. 1875.
The police department is not releasing the identity of the driver involved because the person is a minor. The interim superintendent of schools confirmed in an email last Tuesday night that two Princeton High School students were involved in the incident. No further details were provided.

This is such awful, sad news. The drivers will probably get away with no more than a slap on the wrist, if even that. Pedestrians’ lives don’t matter.
This comment is incredibly insensitive. A person just lost their life, and instead of showing empathy or respect, you jump straight to outrage and assumptions about the legal system. A teenager was involved in a tragic accident—someone whose life has now also been permanently altered. To reduce a complex and heartbreaking situation to “a slap on the wrist” is not only cold but also wildly presumptive. Pedestrians’ lives do matter, but so does basic human decency. Maybe think before posting something so callous next time.
