Former Princeton YWCA Aquatics Director Barbara Griggs dies at 74

Barbara S. Griggs, 74, of Dayton passed away on Sunday, April 27, at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center.
Barbara was born in Norwich, New York, joining her parents and two older sisters. Barbara moved to South Brunswick with her family in 1961. Barbara was very active in sports, her favorites being swimming and basketball. Barbara graduated from South Brunswick High School Class of ’68 and Glassboro State College in 1973. Barbara enjoyed working with children as a Physical Education teacher and coached for many years, winning numerous team championships. She always wanted her own basketball team which she got later in life through her 5 granddaughters. Barbara worked as the Aquatic Director at the Princeton YWCA until her retirement. Barbara enjoyed her retirement traveling and spending time with family, grandchildren and grand dogs, especially her beloved Sinder.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Hugh M. and Rose Scott (nee Collier); sister Bonnie Develle; and sister-in-law Shirley Rhode.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert Lee Griggs, sister Peggy Pettingell and husband Dana; brother-in-laws Ken Develle, Thomas Griggs and wife Glenda, and Harry Griggs. children Robert Lee Griggs, Jr. and wife Donna; Scott Griggs and Monica Sossa; Kelly Stevens and husband Andrew; grandchildren Paige Griggs, Chloe Griggs, Riley Stevens, Sadie Stevens and Mariana Griggs.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852. On Friday, May 2, another viewing will take place at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St Augustine of Canterbury Church, 45 Henderson Road, Kendall Park, NJ 08824.
A private burial will take place on Saturday at Rocky Hill Cemetery.
