Mercer County accepting mail ballot applications ahead of June primary

Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello announced Monday, April 20, that New Jersey voters can now apply online for Vote-by-Mail ballots through the New Jersey Division of Elections for the June 2 election.

State officials recently launched a secure online portal that allows eligible voters to submit Vote-by-Mail ballot applications electronically. The system is now open and accepting applications for the upcoming primary.

Sollami Covello said the online application process is intended to make voting more convenient while maintaining election security.

“This is an important step forward in making voting more accessible and convenient for all eligible residents,” Sollami Covello said. “By allowing voters to apply online, New Jersey is continuing to modernize the voting process while maintaining security and integrity.”

Voters can complete the application through the New Jersey Division of Elections website. Applicants should have the required identifying information ready when submitting the form. The deadline to apply for a mail ballot by mail for the June primary is May 26.

Sollami Covello encouraged residents to apply early, citing continued concerns about mail delivery delays through the United States Postal Service.

“With ongoing concerns about timely mail delivery through the United States Postal Service, applying early and planning ahead is more important than ever,” she said.

The county clerk also encouraged voters who cast ballots by mail to use one of the secure ballot drop boxes located throughout Mercer County rather than relying on the postal system. Officials said the drop boxes are regularly monitored and ballots are collected by the Mercer County Board of Elections.

“Our goal is to ensure every voter has confidence that their ballot will be received and counted,” Sollami Covello said. “Using a secure drop box is one of the best ways to guarantee timely delivery.”

A list of ballot drop box locations, along with an interactive map, is available online.

For the primary election, only registered Democrats and Republicans automatically receive party ballots. Unaffiliated voters must declare a political party in order to participate in the primary.
