Driver killed after SUV plunges into water near Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrence Township
22-year-old West Windsor man found inside submerged vehicle. Crash remains under investigation
A 22-year-old Mercer County man died late Thursday night after his vehicle left the roadway and became submerged in water along Brunswick Pike, police said. Police identified the driver as Rickey Boone Jr.
Officers with the Lawrence Township Police Department responded at about 11:07 p.m. April 30 to the northbound lanes of Brunswick Pike near the Kelly Viaduct, close to the entrance of Quaker Bridge Mall, for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A witness told police they heard what sounded like a crash and then saw a dark-colored vehicle in a nearby body of water. Responding officers confirmed that a vehicle had left the roadway and was submerged, with no sign that anyone had exited.
Emergency responders, including the Lawrence Township Fire Department, Lawrence Township Emergency Medical Services, and the Trenton Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team, were called to the scene. Members of the water rescue team entered the water and located the vehicle’s sole occupant, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates Boone was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V northbound on Brunswick Pike when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and entered the water. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional occupants were found inside the vehicle, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lawrence Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked to contact Detective Dean Sawasky at 609-844-7125 or by email at dsawasky@lawrencetwp.com.
