Pennsylvania man dies after crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick

A Pennsylvania man died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash early Sunday morning on Route 1 North at Ridge Road in South Brunswick Township, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and South Brunswick Police Department.

Police said officers were called to the scene at about 2:04 a.m. April 19, and found that three vehicles were involved in the crash.

Authorities said a 2025 Toyota Camry driven by a 31-year-old woman from Jersey City had been struck from behind by a 2012 Lexus SUV driven by a 53-year-old man from Chester, Pennsylvania.

After the crash, the Camry driver and passenger got out of their vehicle to assess the damage and speak with the SUV driver, police said. A 2016 Lexus sedan driven by a 45-year-old Trenton man then struck the rear of the SUV, pinning the SUV driver between the two vehicles.

The SUV driver was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

The driver of the Lexus sedan suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. The Camry driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment. The Camry passenger was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call South Brunswick police Officer James Kraivec at 732-329-4000 or Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Detective James Alleva at 732-745-4011.
