Helicopter Pilot Was Retired NYPD Officer
Police have confirmed the identity of the pilot who died int he helicopter crash in West Windsor this afternoon. The victim has been identified as Michael Scarfia, 65, of Staten Island, New York. Scarfia was a retired police officer who had worked for the New York Police Department.
“By diverting his failing helicopter into the cornfield and away from crowded shopping malls, he again showed his bravery and dedication to others,” West Windsor Police said in a written statement about Scarfia just before 10:30 p.m.
