Workers Rupture Gas Line at Princeton Day School
A gas main at Princeton Day School was struck by a backhoe operator digging a drain just before noon Friday. Ten staff members at the school had to be evacuated from the Colross Administration Building because of the incident.
There were no reported injuries to the staff, and traffic on the Great Road was unaffected.
Castoro Construction of Hopewell was the company completing the work, police said. There was no reported damage to the equipment or injuries to the workers.
Princeton Police, Princeton Fire Department, and Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad responded to the scene. PSE&G arrived at the scene, shut off the gas main, and began repairs. Shortly after 12:30 p.m. the police, fire, and ambulance personnel cleared the scene.

Contractors rupturing gas lines is getting to be a daily news item. Wouldn’t it be nice if legislators and/or local officials would put some teeth in the sanctions for digging carelessly or without having the gas lines marked in advance?
