Senior Struck and Killed Crossing Route 1 in South Brunswick Thursday Night

A 65-year-old Middlesex County resident was crossing Route 1 on the northbound side at Deans Lane at 9:56 p.m. on Thursday night when she was struck by 2016 Subaru Impreza driven by a 30-year-old Piscataway man, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru stopped at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed, police said. Investigators have spoken to some witnesses and are asking anyone with information to contact South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Officer Jesse Blake at (732) 329-4000, ext. 7472.

The Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics, Monmouth Junction Fire Department, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.  Route 1 northbound was closed from about 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
