Princeton Man Arrested After Attempting to Elude Police
A police officer pulled over a driver on John Street in Princeton at about 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 because the officer suspected that the license plates on the vehicle the driver was driving were stolen.
A license plate search confirmed that the license plates were stolen, police said. During the police stop, the driver then fled north on John Street. Police officers followed the vehicle for about a mile, during which several motor vehicle violations were observed by officers, according to police. The driver eventually made his way back to the area where the initial stop was made. The officers were able to safely stop the suspect on Leigh Avenue near John Street.
The driver, Carlos Salguero-Mateo of Witherspoon Street, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Salguero-Mateo, 29, was charged with numerous motor vehicle offenses including driving while intoxicated, eluding police, receiving stolen property, hindering apprehension, and operating a vehicle during a period of license suspension for a previous DWI. Bail was set at $25,000 and Salguero-Mateo was taken to the Mercer County Correctional Center.
