West Windsor boy hit by car while biking to summer camp

A 12-year-old West Windsor boy was hit by a car on Tuesday morning while biking to summer camp and he suffered a serious head injury, police said.

The boy was headed for Grover Middle School and was biking along New Village Road at Southfield Road just before 9 a.m. when he was struck by a 2016 Toyota Avalon that was driven by a 47-year-old West Windsor resident. The Avalon was traveling west on New Village Road.

Although the boy was wearing his helmet, he suffered a serious head injury, police said. The West Windsor Fire and Emergency Services and Capital Health Paramedics transported him to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center at Fuld Campus in Trenton. Due to the severity of the injuries to the bicyclist, he was later transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. The driver was uninjured.
