The Sourland Spectacular event will return this September for the 10th consecutive year. Participants can choose from two options this year due to the pandemic. An in-person cycling event will be held on Sept. 11, while a self-paced cycling, hiking, and running event will run from Sept. 12 through Sept. 19.

The kickoff event on Sept. 11 will feature both staggered starts and lunches. Pre-event coffee and breakfast will be followed by lunch, which will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lunch will be capped off with ice cream sundaes from the Bent Spoon. The $60 entry fee for the Sept. 11 event includes lunch, swag and rest stops with snacks. Course markers and rest stops will remain in place through Sept. 19 for riders who prefer to ride the course and hike or run the trails on their own.

Proceeds from the Sourland Spectacular support the Sourland Conservancy, a local nonprofit organization with a mission to protect, promote and preserve the 90-square-mile Sourland Mountain region. The forest is on track to lose more than a million trees within three to five years due to the invasive emerald ash borer. Proceeds from the Sourland Spectacular event will help support forest restoration efforts. The Sourland Conservancy hopes to plant 10,000 trees and shrubs this year.
