Pedestrian killed while crossing Route 1 North in West Windsor

A 64-year-old West Windsor resident who was walking across the right lane of Route 1 North at the Square of West Windsor just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday died after being struck by a car, police said.

A 31-year-old woman from Plainsboro was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima and was traveling north on Route 1 in the right lane, approaching the Square at West Windsor, as the man was walking west from the Square. He entered the right lane of Route 1 North and was walking in the direction of the Route 1 south lanes of travel. She hit him while he was walking in the right lane. She then continued onto the shoulder of the road and stopped. The pedestrian was embedded in the windshield of the Nissan on the passenger side. When emergency responders arrived, the pedestrian had no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the driver and victim are not being released at this time.

Route 1 North was closed from Quakerbridge Road to Meadow Road for more than three hours for the crash investigation.

  1. I was driving on Rt. 1 two days ago and saw a man dart between the cars to cross the highway.

  2. Another one? Genuinely sad, but what’s with all the pedestrian fatalities on Route 1 lately? Who walks on Route 1? People on their way to swim at Niagara Falls?

  3. Truly sad, considering that crossing Route 1 from the Square Mall might be much safer by walking a few hundred feet further across the Meadow Road overpass.
