Norine Eileen Slajchert of West Windsor dies at 88

Norine Eileen Slajchert of West Windsor died on January 24 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in the presence of her loving children. She was 88.

Born and raised in the South Side of Chicago, Norine graduated from Loyola University of Chicago and began her career as an elementary school teacher in the city.  While teaching in Chicago, she met the man who was to become the love of her life – Lawrence Slajchert.  Norine moved to New Jersey with Larry and raised a family in Caldwell, living in Caldwell for 39 years.  When her children were grown, she became a librarian, eventually becoming senior librarian director for the Caldwell Library. Eventually, she retired and moved to West Windsor, where she lived for the past 15 years.  She is a former member of St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell and was a member of St. David the King Church in West Windsor.

Daughter of the late Daniel and Eileen (McMahon) Shea, sister to the late Donnie Shea and Nancy O’Neill, sister to Jim and sister-in-law Marianne Shea, and wife to the late Lawrence James Slajchert. She is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law Timothy and April Slajchert and Christopher and Andi Slajchert, daughter Lea Shave, and eight grandchildren: Devin, Christian and Jolie Shave, Melody, Lydia and Andrew Slajchert, Patrick, and Connor Slajchert.

A private memorial mass and celebration will be held for the immediate family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Caldwell Public Library, 268 Bloomfield Ave. Caldwell NJ 07006.
