Police: Home in West Windsor uninhabitable after fire

A fire damaged a house in the Benford Estates development in West Windsor on Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported, police said.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a landscaper working on a yard noticed flames coming from a house across the street. The landscaper called 911. Police arrived and observed a fire that had engulfed the kitchen area of the house.

The West Windsor Division of Fire and Emergency Services, West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, Princeton Junction Fire Company, and Plainsboro Fire Department arrived at the scene to battle the fire.  Police used drones to assist with locating any potential hotspots in the home for firefighters. The fire was under control at about 2:07 p.m.

An initial investigation determined that the fire was accidental.

West Windsor Township Construction Office officials determined that the residence was uninhabitable as a result of the fire. Police said residents of the home were making arrangements for shelter after being displaced.
