Three young adults die in crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick
Three young people died in a crash at the intersection of Route 1 and Ridge Road in South Brunswick on Friday morning, police said.
“This is a tragic day, as 3 young adults have lost their lives in this horrific crash,” South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said. “To the parents, family, and friends our hearts go out to you. Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers tonight.”
A preliminary investigation revealed that at 9:36 a.m., South Brunswick Police, fire and EMS responded to reports of a crash at Route 1 and Ridge Road. The crash involved a tractor-trailer that struck a Sprinter van. The Sprinter van then collided with two other vehicles. The Sprinter van and the tractor-trailer traveled another 100 yards north of the intersection and caught fire.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld till notification is made to next of kin.
Route 1 remains closed and is not expected to reopen till 10 p.m.
