Woman assaulted in library at Princeton University

A woman reported Monday that she was assaulted while doing work in the Lewis Library on the Princeton University campus.

The woman was doing her work in a room on the fourth floor of the library at about 12:30 p.m. when a man opened the door to the room and asked her for help. He then approached the woman, grabbed her by the neck, and pushed her against the wall. The woman screamed and fled the room. She then called the Princeton University Department of Public Safety.

The suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old. He was wearing a brown sweatshirt, brown pants, and a black backpack. He has dark hair.

If you have information about the incident or encounter the person contact the Department of Public Safety at (609) 268-1000.

Tips from Public Safety:

  • Report suspicious behavior or activity immediately by calling the Department of Public Safety at 9-1-1 or by using any blue light emergency phone located throughout the campus.
  • Stay alert and tuned in to your surroundings. Be aware and prepared.
  • Trust your instincts. If you do not feel comfortable in a place or situation, leave.

Editor’s note: Public Safety did not provide any more details about the description of the suspect, including height, skin color, or eye color.
